BVN places on 2022 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work List

Amongst architecture and design firms, BVN has long been known as a great place to work. Our people policy is called “Good Stuff”. Our people strategy is known as “100% Human”. We’re a place that invests in employee wellbeing ahead of everything else.

That’s why we’ve placed on the AFR BOSS Best Places to Work list. Again.

We have four studios spread across the globe and yet it feels like one team. Global gatherings are regular events – via video from London, Sydney, New York and Brisbane. And our weekly Design Conversations bring everyone together online, to brainstorm, co-design and debate.

When we say we’re a “creative collective”, we mean it.

People work on projects across the globe, getting opportunities to design for both their own locale and beyond. Our team in New York works on designing for Brisbane. Our London team works on projects in Canada. And our Sydney team is part of projects in Melbourne. At BVN where you are is no barrier to where your work is.

Our team is diverse and we proactively look for people that bring something different. People who are a culture “add” rather than a culture “fit”. Because we are defined as a whole, by our differences as individuals.

Yes we look for excellence. We also look for people that love what they do. Who come up with big ideas. Who support the ideas of colleagues. Who care for the planet. Who get behind opportunities and see the best success as shared.

BVN also encourages a balanced life. We have life drawing. Trips to the opera. Museum visits and food tours. We get a whole day off for the Christmas Party (it’s a good one). And we celebrate our cultural diversity with our trademark creativity.

We’re not all extroverts either. Lots of our participation is online, done in our own time, more quietly. We have online yoga, bootcamp, cooking demos and book clubs. And personalized check-ins to make sure everyone is doing ok, every now and then.

During COVID we had care packages, organized without fanfare, delivered to our homes. An initiative of our Principals. That’s what they’re like.

This is a place where people work on incredible design projects. Where caring for the planet is as important as caring for one another. Here we support vision, ambition, creativity and vulnerability.
