Your Pocket Guide to the New Sydney Fish Market

Scales of Making at the new Sydney Fish Market.
Over 3,000 discarded oyster shell lids from the former market have been reimagined into bespoke wall finishes using a custom, natural lime-based plaster developed by Bishop Master Finishes, incorporating finely ground oyster shell aggregate. By varying the aggregate’s coarseness, the render achieves a range of textures, with shell lids pressed into the wet plaster and removed once set, before hand-polishing.

Working with Will and Sam from Defy Design, experts in transforming plastic waste into recycled products, BVN helped turn 750 kg of speckled blue material into sheets used to craft 52 Re-ply stools and a reception desk at the new Sydney Fish Market.
Look out for these recycled blue stools when visiting!
A special end-of-year party moment with the BVN team down at the soon-to-open new Sydney Fish Markets. 💙💙
Almost ten years in the making, involving the expertise of over 90 of our BVN staff pictured, it was the only way to send off 2025 together as we turn towards our centenary year - proud, fishy and wet. 🐟🐟
