Topping out at Green Square

BVN won the design excellence competition for a ‘revolutionary’ new primary school and multipurpose community space in Sydney’s Green Square, and it’s great to see the building taking shape.

BVN and ‘Hutchies’ were joined by Sydney independent Lord Mayor Clover Moore AO and representatives from the City of Sydney and School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW).

When realised, the building will be SINSW’s first operational zero-carbon school. And, true to our initial competition proposal, the games court, accessible to the entire Green Square community, will feature one of Sydney's largest public artworks, currently being created by Archibald Prize winner Blak Douglas.
The project is one piece in the urban renewal jigsaw that is seeing Sydney’s oldest industrial heartland transformed into a vibrant and sustainable community. The school is part of the NSW Government’s plan to rebuild public education and ensure growing communities get access to a world-class public education. As well as advancing teaching and learning spaces, our design connects into the neighbourhood, its open spaces and amenities including the Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre and nearby Green Square Library and Plaza.
Construction is on track for completion in 2025.
