As affirmation of our collective creativity on a global stage, three BVN projects have been announced on the 2024 World Architecture Festival (WAF) shortlist.
St Patrick’s College Scientia Building is shortlisted in the Completed Buildings – Schools category. This simple yet striking volume is strategically positioned as a new civic heart of the historic campus. Its design ethos prioritises flexibility and adaptability, catering to diverse educational needs and future uses.
Prince of Wales Hospital Acute Services Building is shortlisted in the Completed Buildings – Health category. It was completed in collaboration with Terroir for Health Infrastructure's South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. In the words of Health Infrastructure, "The building’s interior and exterior design, led by project architects BVN Architecture, provides healing spaces for patients, visitors and staff, complemented by a generous public realm that fosters a sense of calm, community and respect for Country."
UQ Brisbane City is shortlisted in the Inside Festival of Interiors – Education category. It was completed for the University of Queensland with Conrad Gargett Architectus (heritage). According to UQ's Vice President of Advancement and Community Engagement Jennifer Karlson, "UQ Brisbane City seamlessly blends tradition, innovation, and community engagement. It’s more than a building; it’s a living legacy."
Now in its 17th year, WAF is a prestigious international architecture prize judged by a panel of industry leaders. The program spans 44 categories across completed buildings, future projects, landscapes, and interiors.
This year, more than 40 Australian projects have been shortlisted amongst almost 500 from 71 countries. Australia is one of the top five countries with the most shortlisted projects, along with China, the United Kingdom, India and Singapore.
Inside Festival of Interiors is the sister program to WAF and runs concurrently.
BVN will present the shortlisted projects at the World Architecture Festival, 6-8 November 2024, at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Fingers crossed!
