18,000m² GFA mixed new build and refurbishment
Description
The MLC School Masterplan establishes a framework for future development to 2030 that incorporates a new pedagogical model valuing collaborative, technology-enabled learning. The masterplan is the result of a thorough site analysis and extensive briefing process involving numerous workshops with students and staff. It proposes the following:
• Consolidation of school grounds
• Improved entry, wayfinding and circulation
• Extension of the chapel to allow for seating of 300
• Drama theatre re-fit allowing internal and external use
• “The Centre”: new heart of the school – glazed atrium connecting all sections of the main campus, and providing informal learning spaces, tutorial rooms, common rooms and café
• Transformation of existing classroom areas as multi-use ‘Learning Clusters’ and shared staff/student work spaces
• Improved entry, daylight and ventilation to gym and pool
• Gym extension allowing seating for 900, café and crèche
• New 1300 seat auditorium and music rehearsal rooms
• Park Road shared zone
• Potential relocation of the hockey field enabling an extended Creative and Performing Arts precinct linking the Junior School to the rest of the campus
Works emanating from this project include a new teaching and learning building informed by insights gained from ‘The Enlightenment Centre’: an experimental learning space developed during the masterplanning process.
