Tertiary care hospital upgrade and expansion, including a new nine-storey maternity hospital
The $165M public/private Mater Redevelopment Project represents the rebirth of an iconic tertiary care hospital in Queensland. The project scope includes:
– a new nine-storey Mater Mothers’ Hospital;
– a four-storey extension to the Mater Adult Hospital;
– the partial refurbishment of the existing Mater Adult Hospital;
– a new helipad; and
– the replacement of the Stanley Street pedestrian bridge.
The focal point of this significant project is the new Mater Mothers’ Hospital (MMH), a collocated public and private health facility and tertiary level teaching hospital. The MMH is built on top of the fully functioning emergency entry for the Adult and Children’s Hospitals.
The Mater Adult Hospital refurbishment delivers upgrades to the Emergency Department, Procedural Suite, patient wards, food service and lifts, and establishes a new ICU and helipad. An extension to the Mater Adult Hospital provides ambulatory care, health information service, engineering services and the Stanley Street overhead pedestrian walkway, connecting the private and public hospitals. All projects were delivered without disruption to normal patient services.
As an extension to this redevelopment project, Queensland Paediatric Cardiac Services were consolidated within the Mater Children’s Hospital and newly expanded Mater Adult Hospital.
