The Kirra Surf project enjoys a spectacular site on the famed Kirra beachfront
The beach is north facing as is the building which allows wonderful views up the eastern coastline towards Surfers Paradise and to the west over Kirra Headland, Greenmount and Snapper Rocks.
The development builds on the rich local identity developed by the long term location of the Kirra Surf retail enterprise which has become a landmark in the last 30 years. The site is also at a key road junction on the Gold Coast Highway where the highway diverts either towards Tweed Heads or directly to the southern beaches of the Gold Coast. The design has developed from the inherited envelope of an existing Development Approval, but where a new brief required all apartments to enjoy views over the beach and the ocean along with a simplified and more separate approach to the development of retail areas from the residential components.
The residential tower has a large footprint with 10 apartments per floor, however the large mass of the building is broken down into distinct elements. The landmark elliptical shape tower on the primary corner is 13 levels high and is integrated with the lower eight level linear tower to the western side of the development.
The specialist surfing retail areas including food and beverage outlets which are expressed through a dynamic architecture drawn from images of surfing culture and employ significant elements of public art.
