Description

A stand dedicated to the rememberance of a former student, enhancing the spectating experience of school sporting events

The Justin McDonald Stand is a memorial to a recent Captain of the Cranbrook School and provides seating for up to 200 spectators of rugby, cricket or athletics.

The building is made up of three elements, an area of timber stepped seating and two ceremonial sandstone elements – an engraved memorial wall to the south and a viewing platform to the north. The stand appears as an assembly of horizontal and vertical planes sitting beneath a canopy of Brush Box trees and was designed to complement and not compete with the timber Horbury Hunt kiosk located to the south.

The building completes the amphitheatre of Cranbrook School buildings around the southern end of the Hordern Oval as they step up the hill to Victoria Road.
