Description
A world class hub integrating health care, industry, research and education to accelerate economic growth and inner city renewal.
The Christchurch Health Precinct is a key anchor project of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan, bringing together hospital facilities, private research and professional partners, educational and medi-hotel facilities. It aims to create a world-class hub for learning and teaching in healthcare, including medicine, nursing and allied health. It is also designed to play a vital role in accelerating the economic growth of Christchurch. BVN Donovan Hill led a consortium to develop a strategic brief for the precinct, a masterplan proposal and a preliminary economic and financial feasibility analysis. This process involved considerable stakeholder consultation, involving the executive team, multiple academic institutions, Canterbury District Health Board, Council and private stakeholders.
Centred around the Christchurch Hospital, the Health Precinct covers a site area of 72,000m² with over 150,000m² of new built area proposed. The masterplan explores opportunities for significant economic generation, with an iconic academic facility at the heart of the precinct. The masterplan aims to foster collaboration across various sectors through design and maximise synergies and links with new developments in Christchurch.
The pedestrian experience is a main priority, with urban design focused on wellness and providing a high quality public realm. The precinct is planned to showcase sustainable urban design including a central energy plant and water sensitive design.
