Two small detatched beach houses, which are generally identical with differences only occurring in response to the particular site location including topography
Boolarong & Kinkabool is located on an elevated site at ‘Point Lookout’, on North Stradbroke Island, off the coast of Brisbane in South East Queensland. The design is influenced by the need to comply with the requirements of the town plan and with a contemporary interpretation of an architectural form and character derived from aspects of the earlier houses developed in the older part of Point Lookout.
Externally the buildings are finished with sand coloured terracotta tiles with a matt finish, the walls are an oblique reference to the light coloured painted fibre cement sheeting used on traditional houses in the older part of Point Lookout. Windows and a large outdoor living area employ narrow stained timber batten screens which can be adjusted for privacy and outlook.
