We decided to use the natural beauty of rowing boats to guide the design for these buildings, the upper levels are contained within the dynamic curved roof and give the impression of being inside the boat hull, with spectacular views along and across the water

The Beijing Whitewater Park is part of the Beijing Olympic Aquatic Park, which was the International competition winning scheme for the Regatta Centre and White Water Park facilities for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Whitewater Park includes an Olympic standard whitewater slalom course, with temporary spectator seating stands for 15,000, provided in close proximity around the course. The Whitewater Park will be able to cater for top international athletes and competitions while also accommodating a high recreational use through its diverse water facilities.

The design of the Whitewater Park facility embodies a strong symbolic roof inspired by ‘The Wave’. The wave roof floats over the box like function areas, like rapids tumbling over rocks. The vision of the whitewater venue is about action, energy, exuberance and celebration – a reflection of the dynamic nature of the sport.
