Description
Ascot Green is a multi-staged development of residential towers of varying heights within a landscape setting. The development supports Brisbane Racing Club’s overarching desire to build an authentic, identifiable, activated and safe public realm domain. In addition, it provides excellent trackside control, surveillance and safety, while still providing significant engagement for the broader community with on-track activities.
Ascot House is the first completed building comprising nine stories and 90 apartments. BVN worked closely with Mirvac to develop multiple planning and massing options, utilising our modelling software to demonstrate commercial feasibility in conjunction with the development of the architectural form. This concept has informed design decisions throughout the process.
Our placemaking begins with the planning generosity and visual connection to the outdoors, capitalising on this unique location, with views to the existing built form, tree canopies and the wider region beyond, Material, colour and form woven into the building and its landscape surrounds are an extension of the racecourse history. The scale and materials of the brick podium are a modern interpretation of the existing heritage elements, enhancing the character of the place and integrating with the history of the Eagle Farm Racecourse.
The use of contemporary perforated brickwork mixed with large glazed openings, wide sheltered overhangs and high ceilings to the building lobby, emphasise the sense of arrival that connects the outdoors with indoors and maximises natural daylight.
Landscaping has been holistically integrated into the site planning and building design. The project provides an appropriate sub-tropical response to place through ribbons of lushly landscaped terraces woven into the site and elevated planter and recreation decks with cascading landscaping. The landscaping strengthens the existing character of this unique place and integrates with the heritage trees including those protected and retained as part of the project. This informed the response of the building and public realm outcomes.
The relatively conventional planning and highly resolved interiors are contrasted by the exceptional generosity of the balconies that can be furnished to become genuine occupiable outdoor rooms. These spaces leverage the sub-tropical environment, providing settings to enjoy the place, race day events and opportunities for community interaction.
The interior design exudes timeless elegance, inspired by the romance of equine racing. Every detail is thoughtfully considered and selected for discerning tastes. There is warmth in every room, generous flowing spaces, superior storage and stunning finishes create modern apartments that feel like home.
Ascot Green is the first in a set of buildings hosting public spaces and gardens to allow new experiences of horse racing and other events. As the community grows so will the integration with the wider Eagle Farm Village and the surrounding neighbourhoods. A unique sense of community has started to emerge as purchasers and potential purchasers have had opportunities to get to know each other through an extensive events programme prior to settlement including race day events and educational workshops around downsizing and apartment living.
