Amberley Stage 2 Redevelopment

Amberley, QLD

Completed 2007

RAAF Base Amberley is situated south west of Ipswich in South East Queensland. The Base has been earmarked by the Department of Defence for the creation of a large consolidated facility supporting a number of the elements of the ADF particularly related to defence support roles.

One component of the Amberley Stage 2 Redevelopment Stage 2 includes the relocation of two army units to RAAF Base Amberley – 9th Force Support Battalion which has sub-units at Randwick, Moorebank, Puckapunyal and Townsville; and 21 Construction Squadron, which is currently based at Gallipoli Barracks in Enoggera, Brisbane.

Work for the project encompasses the following:

  • New office facilities for both 9FSB and 21 Const Sqn;
  • New centralised Training Facilities for both 9FSB and 21 Const Sqn;
  • Workshops and Q Stores for both 9FSB and 21 Const Sqn;
  • Extensive Vehicle Shelters
  • Deployment Areas and Carparking
  • New Area Fuel and Wash Facilities

The development of environmentally sensitive models for the new facilities responds to the Army’s strong ESD agenda and the desire of the personnel to work in accommodation capable of operating with either air conditioning or natural ventilation dependant on the prevailing climatic conditions. Extensive research and modelling has been undertaken with Environmental Engineers to ascertain the most appropriate designs for all buildings and many innovative features are incorporated to facilitate efficient functioning.

Over 30 individual buildings were delivered in the two major precincts, making up the core of this component of the RAAF Amberley Stage 2 Redevelopment.
