Australian firm BVN received an Honourable Mention when the results were announced recently in the competition for the Master Plan for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Click here to watch the video.
BVN has worked on every Olympic event since Sydney 2000 when their architecture was recognised as a major contributor to the ‘best games ever’ remark made by the then Olympic head Juan-Antonio Samaranch.
Up against some of the world’s largest players in the sporting world, BVN was commended by the jury. The Australian studio was competing against top American, English and European architects.
The winning firm was the UK based AECOM an organisation that includes engineers, planners, designers and project managers and that is many times larger than BVN.
‘Being commended at this international level of competition is a tremendous confidence booster for Australian architects,’ said Mr James Grose, National Director, BVN Architecture
´For some time now Australian architecture has been defined on the world stage by its derivation from the unique landscape. As global culture becomes more prominent, Australian design is equal to any in the world,’ said Mr Grose.
Australians are recognised as significant contributors to Olympic planning and management in all aspects of the event.

London 2012 – Athletes Village.
