BVN DOMINATES COMMERCIAL INTERIOR AWARDS

BVN dominated the Major Commercial category at the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) that were presented at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne on 25 November 2011.

BVN’s AECOM project in Brisbane took out the Award for a major commercial project for ‘its coherence and the elegant means by which natural finishes were handled in a commercial context,’ according to the jury report.

Juror Sue Carr noted that ‘BVN has created a unified tenancy for AECOM which has fostered a culture that is dynamic, collaborative and sustainable.’
Mr David Kelly, BVN Principal said, ‘Workplaces are no longer just spaces where people come together to do work, they are spaces used to inspire and motivate staff to maximise their potential.’

According to Mr Kelly, AECOM needed a flexible workplace to enable a diverse range of work types to be carried out in a collaborative environment.

 ‘It’s all about keeping people at the heart of the project, designing a place that supports a community,” said David Kelly.

The jury also gave a highly commended prize to BVN’s own studio in Sydney ‘for its gutsy commitment to minimal intervention and raw materiality’.

According to the jury it was perhaps unsurprising that ‘BVN dominated the major commercial category given its widely acknowledged mastery of workplace design’.
